With the recent sunny weather, the early announcement of the arrival of tick season may be no surprise. We have already had patients come in with live and embedded ticks on them. Although tick-borne diseases are currently very uncommon in this area, they may be on the rise. We encourage you to thoroughly examine and brush your dog after hikes or walks in areas of high grasses.  Based upon risk of exposure, we support the use of a tick preventative. There is a new generation of safer tick preventatives that we can recommend if necessary.

Please see our Pets and Parasites handout which discusses parasites and their prevention in more detail.
